How NOT To Dress Like A Leprechaun

Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day is actually a religious holiday? According to History.com:

Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people.

The fun part, for all of us, is that the Irish were able to celebrate by dancing, drinking and feasting on good food – which led to the holiday we all enjoy today.

The thing is… when it comes to style, we often see people honoring St. Patrick’s Day by dressing like a “leprechaun” – meaning they’re wearing green in every piece of clothing – from head-to-toe.

Now, if you’re an “all-out” kind of gal, then you’ll be happy being a “leprechaun” for a day. (We all know at least one person that will wear all green – even down to the nail polish!)  If that’s you – it’s OK – enjoy and rock it!

I am not that bold (remember the hot pink stretch pants)? And wearing just a St. Patty’s Day hat or button is too simple. But I do like incorporating green in a way that’s flattering and fun. For example, try wearing:

  • A green dress with metallic heels, or
  • Pretty jewelry (real or costume) that contains emeralds, jade or peridot, or
  • A green scarf (like the one from the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic)

My personal favorite, of course, is a striking pair of green shoes! This allows you to wear a neutral outfit and let your shoes do the talking.

What are some of the fun ways you’ve dressed (or seen other people dress) for St. Patrick’s Day?

What Do I Wear for Valentine’s Day?!

My dear friend George, from WhatsHappeningGeorge.com, asked the following question for his mom. I thought it may be a good fit for you all as well.

Dear Living The Classy Life,

My mom has so many choices to do something special for Valentine’s Day; dinner, dancing, movie, opera, symphony, a play or staying home by the fire.  She is looking to spice things up a bit!  Go MOM you little spitfire!  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

George

Hi George!

Go mom is right! This is an excellent question, because the answer truly is different for everyone. You see, a classy lady lives her life by doing what makes her happy – and that can include spicing things up for Valentine’s Day! In my opinion, your mom should do what makes her and her significant other happy. What’s fun for the both of them? The whole point of Valentine’s Day is to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company, right?

Now, what she should wear depends on what she does… and that can get really interesting! If going dancing, a fun thing to do is to dress for the feel of the music. For example, if going to a jazz club – try a 60’s beatnik look. Or, if country is her preference, she can show off her cowgirl style with chic boots, a cowgirl hat and tight fittin’ jeans (not too tight though).  Salsa dancing? A bold, red salsa dress (with a shawl) would be sexy, appropriate and have a “Valentine’s Day” feel as well…

And if you’re like me, it’s the perfect time to find a sassy new pair of shoes!

My personal favorite, though, is staying at home and enjoying a candlelight dinner by the fire. Why? Because you can relax in your PJ’s! But this also allows you to dress up for the evening as though you were braving that crowded restaurant, in the comfort of your own home.

Here are some examples.

I love working with your mom! She’s always fun and a little “spunky”, just like you George!
