Unfortunately, the above mini-song is all too common when thinking of office holiday parties, which causes many people greet the holiday work season with fear and nervousness.

Below is an article I came across on Inc.com that may help you experience a classy and more enjoyable holiday season with your coworkers.

What Do I Wear for Valentine’s Day?!

My dear friend George, from WhatsHappeningGeorge.com, asked the following question for his mom. I thought it may be a good fit for you all as well.

Dear Living The Classy Life,

My mom has so many choices to do something special for Valentine’s Day; dinner, dancing, movie, opera, symphony, a play or staying home by the fire.  She is looking to spice things up a bit!  Go MOM you little spitfire!  Any suggestions?

Hi George!

Go mom is right! This is an excellent question, because the answer truly is different for everyone. You see, a classy lady lives her life by doing what makes her happy – and that can include spicing things up for Valentine’s Day! In my opinion, your mom should do what makes her and her significant other happy. What’s fun for the both of them? The whole point of Valentine’s Day is to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company, right?

Now, what she should wear depends on what she does… and that can get really interesting! If going dancing, a fun thing to do is to dress for the feel of the music. For example, if going to a jazz club – try a 60’s beatnik look. Or, if country is her preference, she can show off her cowgirl style with chic boots, a cowgirl hat and tight fittin’ jeans (not too tight though).  Salsa dancing? A bold, red salsa dress (with a shawl) would be sexy, appropriate and have a “Valentine’s Day” feel as well…

And if you’re like me, it’s the perfect time to find a sassy new pair of shoes!

My personal favorite, though, is staying at home and enjoying a candlelight dinner by the fire. Why? Because you can relax in your PJ’s! But this also allows you to dress up for the evening as though you were braving that crowded restaurant, in the comfort of your own home.

If you’ve ever had the thought “Oh Crap!! I hit the off button – not snooze,” then this post is for you. I, for one, have experienced that more times than I’d like to admit (I’m not a morning person – at all). For those of you who are like me, the “5 Minute Face” is a major beauty saver.

Why the “5 Minute Face”

I’m a strong believer in looking your best whenever you leave the house. I mean, if you’re going to be out-and-about, you might as well put your best face forward, right? We all have those days where we just don’t want to be bothered; however, a classy lady should always strive to be presentable. After all, you never know who you’ll bump into…

What got me started with the “5 Minute Face”

The goal is to look polished without taking hours of primping to get there. But, who has that much time anymore? And like I said, I’m not a great candidate for “early to rise” anyway – so I need all the time-saving help I can get. The need for this was cemented one morning before
a major meeting…

You see, when I first learned to apply makeup there were at least 15 steps that had to be done to put on my makeup… and that was before hair! Needless to say, I was not a fan of makeup.  But, I did it anyway – after all, I had to put my best face out there. And being in the corporate world – being polished was a must.

Well, this particular morning, I was running late and nervous about a presentation. I ran in the door and got straight to work on prepping for the meeting. The good news: I wasn’t presenting the meeting – just setting up. The bad news: I had one eye completely done, one eye only half done, w-a-y too heavy blush and a line of demarcation. (That’s where you can see your foundation at your jawline – usually from using the wrong color and/or not blending enough.)

I was so embarrassed.

From that day on, I not only took the time to be sure everything was finished (!), but looked for ways to reduce the number of steps needed to get the look I wanted.

The Signature Bag: A Timeless Accessory

One tell-tale sign of a classy lady is her handbag. Pause for a moment… now picture the classy women in your life (yourself included)… How many of them carry a heavenly signature bag (or business tote)? You know, the one that causes you to automatically stop and stare for a moment… I’ve spent some time pondering this – and have come up with a few reasons as to why “The Signature Bag” is such an important accessory.

  • It’s simplifies her routine. Having a bag that represents you makes it easier to prepare for your day. You (generally) don’t have to worry about whether or not it matches your outfit because it’s a statement piece. It just works. (One of my personal favorites is this Julia

  • It’s timeless. Purchasing a bag that’s classically designed is going to work with your wardrobe for years to come. It’s a staple piece that will compliment any fashion trend – so why not select an upscale brand?
  • It’s functional. Designers know that women want a bag that looks good, feels good and can handle anything we throw in it – for many years. That’s why there are so many varieties to choose from. A bag that can do it all is the “creme de la creme.”

One company that offers all-of-the-above is Brahmin. I was originally drawn to Brahmin by their handbags: I love the way they feel, look and function. (If a bag can keep me organized – then somebody’s doing something right!) However, I was even more impressed after reading more about the company and their history.  You see, Brahmin (which is still family owned as far as I know) was founded by a husband and wife team who aspired to reach a classy audience. They knew what they wanted to offer, and who they wanted to reach – and created a product that went above and beyond.

I believe they have achieved their goal, and then some. Their bags compliment any outfit, class, personality and income level. (Yes, they are affordable!)

You don’t have to be rich to be classy.
