Living the Classy Life - FIND yourself. LOOK your best. LIVE your life.

Classy, Clean and Clutter Free… Part 1

How often do you start your day hyper-focused, your ‘to-do’ list all set to go, but by the time  you actually get around to starting your list – you’re tuckered out? Why might that be? Well, if you’re like me, it’s because you spent the first part of today finishing yesterday.

Let me explain…

Often times we want to get everything done–housekeeping, work, kids, dinner, shopping, pets, quiet time and more–but in reality, we only have enough time and energy to tackle the precious few items that keep our lives running as smoothly as possible. Everything else takes a backseat – but continues to be in the forefront of our minds. And what we don’t finish today spills over into tomorrow.

This difficult juggling act of life can, at times, be very frustrating. (As shown through the growing “to-do” lists, piles of paper on our desks, and multiple areas of clutter.)

Why We Need Clutter-Free Spaces

As women we tend to be quite in tune with our environments; living and working in a cluttered space causes stress, sometimes anger, and can just plain get in the way!

However, starting your day with a clean, organized environment is something you can control, and doing so can have a dramatically positive effect on your daily life.

Many of the successful and classy ladies I know have a system they follow to keep things in order. They either work their systems on their own, or, hire someone else to help them instead. (Thereby freeing up even more time–we’ll talk more on that in a later post.)  The key is to find a system that works for you – so that you actually do it.

What’s Working for Me, So Far…

Recently I discovered the website FlyLady.com, and I’ve been using it to help me gain order. What I like about the FlyLady is that she demonstrates a way of gaining order without feeling overwhelmed. I can take things one step at a time – at my own pace.Step one of the FlyLady program is a deep cleaning of your kitchen sink. Though I thought this was an odd place to start, I must admit that the feeling of accomplishment I experienced after getting that done was so worth it. Seeing my super clean and shiny sink really did invoke a  “Yes-I-did-it!” happy feeling. Now, I smile when I walk into my kitchen – instead of frowning at the disorderly mess.

For me, beginning my day in a clean, organized kitchen is a much needed calm that gets my day off to a better start.

My questions to you are:

  • Do you have clutter in your home?
  • If so, how does seeing that clutter make you feel?
  • How does that feeling affect your relationships with others?

Feel free to leave a comment below, or direct message me with questions or suggestions on getting organized.

Lady Gaga is Beautiful?!

Have you ever heard the phrase “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?”

Years ago, I passed it off as “just a saying,” but there really is truth to it! Today, when I think of beauty, I think of so many different kinds of beauty. There’s the classic movie beauty of Audrey Hepburn, the eccentric beauty of Lady Gaga, the ageless beauty of a wise grandmother, and the glowing beauty of a mother holding her newborn child.

Beauty comes in so many different forms, which is why it is different for each individual.

Today, let’s focus on beauty as it relates to aging.

If you watch any television at all, you’ve probably noticed that anti-aging is a hot topic. Just pay attention to the commercials during your favorite show (instead of fast-forwarding them on your DVR like I do). How often do you see a commercial about fighting wrinkles?

One thing I’ve learned, and am thankful for, is that the majority of the factors in aging are control-able. It’s been said that 10% of the signs of aging are hereditary (meaning we can blame our parents and grandparents), and a whopping 90% is due to our environment (chemicals, smoking, diet, stress, etc.!)  That means we can each work on our own 90%!

Take that aging!

I’m finding that most women are starting to take action on “graceful aging” in their late 20’s or early 30’s. That’s a great time to get a head start on wrinkles. I personally use an anti-aging eye cream daily, and have clients who do so as well. We’ve all experienced dramatic results – reducing wrinkles, lifting sagging eye-lids and eliminating dark circles!

Take a look at the labels of your products: Do your beauty and body care products include mineral oil? Mineral oil is an occlusive oil that’s isn’t absorbed well by the skin – so it feels good, but does no good for your skin or body.

In addition to skin care, you can start fighting aging by taking notice of your environment. What cleaning products are you using? Are they full of harsh chemicals? Could something as simple as a damp microfiber cloth get the job done just as effectively?

What are some other factors in your life that could be adding to your aging process?

My Questions to You Are:

  • How many chemicals are you exposed to on a daily basis? (Did you know that the average woman is exposed to over 500 chemicals each day…?)
  • Do you use sun protection daily (face and body)?
  • How’s your diet? Am you eating more healthy foods than not?
  • Are you a smoker? What are some of the anti-aging benefits of quitting?
  • How much stress do you really have, and what are some positive ways to handle that stress?

If preventing, reversing or slowing the aging process is an important topic to you, please contact me for more information. I’m happy to share with you what’s working for me, and other ideas on how to get started today!

Stay Classy!
